O Bando & Jupy came together in São Paulo in the early 2000s. Their music mixed samba with hip-hop and electronic elements, a combination that drew some criticism from traditional samba listeners. The duo's first album, 'Flor de Dúvida,' came out in 2003 and included the title track that became one of their best-known songs.
Jupy handled vocals with a distinctive phrasing, while O Bando was essentially a collective led by producer Jota Moraes. They followed their debut with albums like 'Entre a Terra e o Céu' in 2006 and 'Cidade Invisível' in 2010.
Other songs like 'Leva Tempo' and 'Mudez' show their range within that hybrid sound. They kept recording through the 2010s, putting out 'O Som da Liberdade' in 2014 and 'Nação Brasileira' in 2018.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
