O Barrunfo formed in Fortaleza, Ceará in 1991, with vocalist Yury Ribeiro and accordionist Betto di Bahia at the core. They played local shows for years before their 1998 album 'O Forrô do Barrunfo' brought wider attention. That record included '4 Rodas,' a song about road freedom that became their breakout track.
After that album, they kept releasing music through the 2000s and 2010s, with titles like 'O Barrunfo Tá Solto' in 2002 and 'Só Forró' in 2013. Their lineup has included bassist Ronaldo Rasta Canela, drummer Natanael de Almeida, and guitarist André do Vale alongside the founding members.
Some listeners have questioned whether their approach to forró is too polished, but the band has generally stuck to working within the genre's traditions while letting their own style come through.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
