O Breca formed in São Paulo in 1996 as a trio of childhood friends: Felipe Bozzetti, Rodrigo Campos, and Marcos Valle. Their debut album came out in 1999, followed by a second one in 2002 called 'Coisas Simples' that shared its name with one of their best-known songs.
That song 'Coisas Simples' became something of an anthem for them, touching on everyday life with a straightforward approach. Their other tracks like 'Amor Fati' and 'Aonde Está Você' show a similar preference for direct, unadorned expression over elaborate production.
They drew from bossa nova, samba, and rock, but their sound never felt like a calculated fusion of those styles. It was more like three friends playing what came naturally to them, with Bozzetti's vocals and lyrics at the center, Campos on guitar, and Valle handling rhythm.
Their music had a certain nostalgic quality that sometimes contrasted with Brazil's more upbeat popular music at the time. They kept working as that same trio for years, releasing albums that maintained a consistent, understated approach rather than chasing trends.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
