O-Dred formed in Rio de Janeiro in 2002, bringing together musicians, rappers, and dancers around a mix of funk carioca, hip-hop, and samba. Their 2004 single "Brincar de Amor" became an immediate hit in Brazil and beyond, with its catchy melody and cheeky lyrics helping push the band into the mainstream.
The group's core lineup included vocalist Bruno Bruninho, DJ and producer DJ Memê, guitarist Pedro Lô, bassist Gilmar G-Funk, and saxophonist Cláudio Humaitá. Their sound leaned on funk beats and live instrumentation, with Humaitá's saxophone adding a jazz touch. They released albums like "Meu Ritmo" in 2007 and "Funk de Raiz" in 2015.
O-Dred's lyrics and stage shows sometimes drew criticism from conservative quarters in Brazil, but they kept performing. Other songs in their catalog include "De cara nova," "Disritimia," and "na praia."
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
