O Elevador formed in Rio de Janeiro in the late 1960s with João de Aquino as their frontman. Their debut single 'Contando As Horas' came out in 1971 and found an audience, helping establish them in Brazilian music.
Their sound drew from Brazilian rhythms alongside rock and psychedelic touches. Songs like 'Como Uma Arma' and 'Máquina Louca' reflect that mix. They released albums including 'O Som' in 1972, 'Elevador' in 1974, and 'Trilha Sonora' in 1977.
The band's lineup shifted over time. Early members included Marco Mazzola on guitar, Luis Paulo Bragança on bass, and Ney Canastra on drums. Later, players like Gilson Peranzzetta and Cláudio Géo passed through the group.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
