A Brazilian band that mixed thrash, punk, and melodic metal while tackling injustice in their lyrics.
For a sense of their range, listen to the aggressive riffing of 'Rock Na TV' and the more melodic territory of 'Pedaço do Céu'.
They came out of São Paulo in the early '90s with a sound that pulled from heavy metal, thrash, and punk. Alex Camargo's lyrics often addressed social injustice and personal struggle, giving their music a raw, grounded feel. The track 'Estrela Vermelha' became something of an anthem for their listeners.
O Grito formed in São Paulo in 1990 with Alex Camargo on vocals, Val Santos and Felipe Andreoli on guitars, Eduardo Minami on bass, and Marco Aurélio Mello on drums. They released their debut album 'Por Quê? Porque!' in 1996, followed by records like 'Estrela Vermelha' in 1999 and 'Sangue Frio' in 2002.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
