O Kannalha formed in Salvador, Bahia in 2014, with Marcello Rosa on vocals and guitar. Their debut single "Fraquinha" came out in 2017 and drew attention for its direct lyrics, which some radio stations wouldn't play. The band kept working and put out a second album called "O Mundo É Nosso" the following year.
They play a mix of funk, soul, and Afrobeat with Brazilian rhythms. The group includes Felipe Guedes on drums, Leandro Lima on bass, and Tico Santa Cruz on percussion. By 2020 they had released a third album, "Deixa Acontecer," which did well on Brazilian charts.
Their music has been heard at festivals outside Brazil. The band's sound is built around energetic rhythms and Rosa's vocal delivery.
