O Matador formed in Porto Alegre, Brazil in 1999 with Marcelo Camelo on vocals and guitar, Rodrigo Barba on bass, and Fred Ferreira on drums. Their debut album '500 Km de Distancia' came out in 2001, featuring the single 'Edimburgo' which helped establish them in Brazilian alternative rock.

After Camelo left the band, Rodrigo Amarante joined as vocalist. They released albums like 'A Gente Morre Sem Dizer Adeus' in 2005 and 'O Segundo Primeiro Ato' in 2009, showing a shift toward more experimental sounds. Other songs in their catalog include 'És o Mais Belo Dos Seres' and 'Expresso Paris Bucareste'.

They've put out six studio albums total, with the most recent being 'O Que Vai Ficar' in 2022. The current lineup includes Amarante, Barba, and Ferreira.
