O Paralelo Projeto formed in 2004 in Senador Camará, a neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro. The group started with Renato Gama on vocals and Rodrigo Brandão on rap, practicing and playing local events without much formal training or equipment. Their early material drew from the sounds around them, mixing samba and funk with hip-hop elements.
In 2008, they released "Da Janela," a song that connected with listeners across Brazil. Its straightforward lyrics about daily life in the favela gave the band wider attention. They followed with albums like "Favela Soul," which pulled together Brazilian rhythms with hip-hop and funk. Other tracks include "És Linda" with Cachopa and "Versos Pra Lembrar" featuring Fillipe Stortti.
The group has worked with artists like Gilberto Gil and Djavan, and their lineup includes Rafael Santos on guitar, Vinícius Leite on bass, and Bruno Cunha on drums. Their music often touches on social themes, and they've been involved in community outreach programs in Rio.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
