O Pimentinha do Forró formed in Fortaleza, Ceará in 1988, with accordionist Sérgio do Forró and vocalist Josemir at the start. They worked through some early financial difficulties, playing the local circuit before things began to change in the mid-90s.
Their 1995 single "Baticumbum" broke through nationally, its simple, driving rhythm becoming a staple at parties and dance halls across Brazil's Northeast. Other songs like "Forró de Rosca" and "Tome Lapada" followed a similar, effective formula of straightforward dance music.
Josemir left the band around 2000, with Sérgio do Forró remaining as the consistent figure through various lineup changes. They released albums like "Só Pra Dançar" in 1997 and "Dança da Rainha" in 1999, keeping to their core sound.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
