O Sete formed in Rio de Janeiro in the mid-1980s with seven musicians. They played a mix of rock, funk, and reggae, building an audience through live shows in clubs and festivals. Their 1992 album 'A Volta' gave them a signature song of the same name that became something of an anthem.
Their music sometimes addressed social and political themes, which drew both supporters and critics. Beyond 'A Volta,' their catalog includes songs like 'Roleta Kamikase' and 'Amnésia Seletiva.' They released several albums through the late 1990s and early 2000s, including 'Mundo Animal' and 'Pedra Fundamental.'
The original lineup featured João Penca on vocals, Arthur de Faria on guitar, Marcelo Costa on bass, Kadu Menezes on drums, Eduardo Souto Neto on keyboards, Mauro Santa Cecília on saxophone, and Mauricio Maestro on trumpet. The band's membership shifted some over time, but that core group defined their early sound.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
