O Soma formed in São Paulo in 2011 with João Campos on vocals, Pedro Lucas on guitar, Bruno Machado on bass, and Leonardo Itas on drums. Their first album, "O Sono," came out the following year. They've put out two more records since then: "O Vento e a Chama" in 2015 and "A Alma e o Tempo" in 2019.
Their song "O Espantalho e o Palhaço" appears on that 2019 album. Another track, "Vozes Iguais," is also among their better-known work. The band's sound tends toward the atmospheric, pulling from folk and rock without settling into either category neatly.
Some listeners have found their music too melancholy or not commercial enough, but they've kept at it without much obvious shift in direction. They're still based in São Paulo, where they started.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
