Oakland formed in São Paulo in the early 2000s around singer-songwriter Fernando Almeida. Their music draws from acoustic folk traditions and Brazilian MPB, with Almeida's lyrics and vocals at the center. The group has included guitarist Gabriel Sobreira, bassist Rodrigo Lima, and drummer Thiago Bordin at various points.
Their debut album 'Quando Foi Que Eu Te Perdi?' came out in 2007, followed by 'Café Brasil' in 2011, 'Flor de Outono' in 2015, and 'Sem Rumo' in 2021. They've worked with other Brazilian musicians like Paulinho da Viola and Criolo along the way.
Oakland's songs tend toward the introspective, with titles like 'Quando Foi Que Eu Te Perdi?' suggesting themes of loss and reflection. Their sound has shifted between acoustic foundations and more experimental approaches across those four records.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
