Archive material and source history

OBR formed in Recife, Brazil in the late 1980s with Otto (Rodrigo Amarante) on vocals and guitar, Beto on lead guitar, Dengue on bass, Pablo on drums, and Fred 04 on keyboards. Their first album was 1990's 'Quem Brincava de Espoleta Hoje Brinca de Oitão.'

They played a raw, energetic mix of rock and punk with some experimental touches, drawing from bands like the Ramones and Sonic Youth. Their music and lyrics sometimes drew criticism from conservative quarters, but they kept making records through the 1990s, including 'O Futuro Não Demora' in 1992 and 'Admirável Chip Novo' in 1997.
