Obscenity Trial came out of Chicago in the early 2000s. Their debut album 'My Mind Your Mind' arrived in 2003, and the title track became one of their better-known songs. The band's lineup included Mike Scheidt on vocals and guitar, Scott Kelly on bass, and Steve Von Till on drums.

They followed up with 'In the Absence of Light' in 2006 and 'The Fear' in 2010. Their 2016 album 'The Only Thing That's Real' marked a return to heavier material. Other songs in their catalog include '7:30,' 'Afraid,' and 'Daydream.'

Some of their lyrics, particularly on 'My Mind Your Mind,' drew attention for their direct treatment of difficult subjects. Their sound pulled from heavy metal and doom, with some experimental touches mixed in.
