Occult formed in Sweden in the early 2000s, with Martin Axenrot on drums, Thomas Eriksson on bass, and Martin Persson on guitars. Their first album came out in 2004, sharing the band's name. They've put out records like 'The Enemy Within' in 2007, 'Ashes to Ashes' in 2011, 'Red Dawn' in 2015, and 'Malice' in 2019.

Their songs often deal with dark themes, with titles like 'Eyes Of Blood,' 'And Darkness Shall Begin,' and 'Prepare To Meet Thy Doom.' The track 'Obsessed By the Grave' from 2004 became something of a signature piece for them.

Over time, the lineup shifted. Ville Laihiala joined on vocals, and guitar duties were handled by Fredriksson Nordström and Anders Persson, while Axenrot and Eriksson remained. Their music has drawn some criticism for its lyrical content, but they've kept making it their way.
