Oceanship formed in Berlin around 2004 as an electronic duo with Mathias Kaden and Florian Busse. Their track 'Hotblack' from 2006 became a notable early release, built around hypnotic beats and atmospheric layers that drew from deep house and techno. They put out their debut album 'Tidal Waves and Neon Lights' that same year.
Their sound evolved across subsequent albums like 'Night Walker' in 2008 and 'Sailors' in 2010, shifting between introspective ambient textures and more direct dancefloor rhythms. Songs such as 'Mistake' and 'Excited' reflect this range, balancing electronic pulse with melodic depth. In 2009, they left their original label Kompakt after disagreements over creative direction.
Later work included 'The Great Escape' in 2012 and 'Time's Arrow' in 2017, continuing their focus on layered production and mood-driven electronic music. Tracks like 'Don't Wear Me Out' and 'The Rest You Can Live Without' show their consistent approach to crafting immersive, rhythm-based soundscapes.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
