Ocimar Santos was born in Serrinha, Bahia in 1943. His father played accordion, and Santos grew up performing at local festivals. He drew from forró, baião, and samba traditions, influenced by artists like Luiz Gonzaga and Jackson do Pandeiro.
In 1975, Santos released "Corpo Violado," a ballad about a man haunted by his deceased lover. The song became a national hit and defined his career. His lyrics often dealt with love, loss, and the struggles of ordinary people.
He continued recording, with songs like "Manga Carlotinha" also becoming well-known.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
