O'Connor was a folk-rock band from Liverpool that formed in the late 1960s. They became known for their cover of The Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby," which appeared on their 1969 album of the same name. The band had three members: vocalist and guitarist Kevin Phelan, bassist Gerry O'Connor, and drummer John Tynan.
They released a few albums in the early 1970s, including "The Ballad of John and Yoko" in 1970 and "Liverpool Town" in 1972. Their sound mixed folk and rock elements, and they wrote original material alongside their Beatles cover. Some of their other songs include "1976," "Algo de mi," and "Correr y no volver."
O'Connor's version of "Eleanor Rigby" remained their most recognizable track. The band's activity tapered off after the early 1970s, but that recording kept their name in circulation among listeners who remembered that particular take on the Beatles classic.
