Oda Yuji is a Japanese singer-songwriter who recorded a version of "Last Christmas" in 1989. The song became popular in Japan around the holiday season. He was born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1954 and started working as a solo artist in 1985 after playing in bands.
His recording of "Last Christmas" drew some attention for sounding similar to George Michael's 1984 song of the same name. Yuji denied copying it. He released other seasonal songs like "Christmas Eve" and "Blue Christmas" in the early 1990s.
His band included Masahiro Yamazaki on guitar, Yasushi Saito on bass, and Yoshiaki Tsunoda on drums. Yuji sang and played guitar.
