Background notes

Archive material and source history

Odair dos Teclados was born Odair José do Nascimento in 1943 in Bom Jesus do Itabapoana, Espírito Santo. He started playing piano and singing early, influenced by samba and bolero rhythms. In 1965 he joined a group called The Jet Blacks, which marked his first professional step.

His debut album 'Odeon' came out in 1973, and the song 'Tu Ta Querendo Tá' became a national hit. That track's romantic ballad style helped define his sound during the 1970s. He recorded several albums through the 1970s and 1980s, including 'Odair II' in 1974 and 'É de Coração' in 1985.

He worked with other Brazilian musicians like Elis Regina, Gilberto Gil, and Djavan.
