Background notes

Archive material and source history

Odidodi formed in 2014 in Rio de Janeiro with three friends: brothers Thiago and Marcelo Alexandre, and Rafael Souza. Thiago handled vocals, Marcelo played guitar, and Rafael was on drums. Their first album came out in 2016, simply called "Odidodi."

In 2018, the song "Quando Mais Precisei" became a hit for them. It's one of their most recognizable tracks, along with others like "A Fábrica de Zumbis" and "Amendoim do Governo." They put out more albums after that, including "Um Novo Amanhã" in 2020 and "Vem Dançar" in 2021.

Some listeners have questioned how the band uses Afro-Brazilian rhythms in their music, but Odidodi has said they see their work as celebrating Brazilian diversity. Their sound pulls from samba, pop, and funk, and they're known for energetic live shows.
