Of Machines formed in Los Angeles in 2011 with Ryan Astle on vocals, Anthony Barone and Zachary Scott on guitars, Drew Taubenfeld on bass, and Aaron Pauley on drums. They put out their first album, 'Ascend,' the following year. The band's sound had a melodic quality that stood out, with songs like 'Becoming Closer To Closure' and 'Things Too Visible To See' showing their approach.
There were some changes in who was singing. Astle left for a while in 2013, and Austin Carlile stepped in. Carlile later left in 2016, and Astle eventually came back. They released 'Void' in 2014 and 'The Silver Lining' in 2016, which had Carlile on it. In 2022, they put out 'Oracle.'
They signed with Rise Records in 2014, which led to some discussion among listeners about how their music fit with the label. Their songs, including 'Reset, Reflect' and 'Weaving The Values,' carried on with a reflective tone.
