Ofel formed in Matosinhos, Portugal in 2002 with Miguel Araújo on vocals and guitar, Luís Simões on guitar, Sérgio Nascimento on bass, and Miguel Castro on drums. They released their debut album 'O Mar Não Tem Dono' in 2006, followed by 'Perdeu-se o Sinal' in 2008 and 'Primavera' in 2011.
Their song 'Quando não se tem nada não há nada a perder' became one of their most recognized tracks, along with 'Prisão De Sombras' and 'A Queda'. The band's lyrics often dealt with themes of loss and resilience, delivered through Araújo's poetic vocals over rock arrangements that sometimes incorporated folk and electronic elements.
They built their audience through touring and word-of-mouth rather than mainstream promotion, developing a following for their introspective approach to Portuguese alternative rock.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
