Oferle formed in Los Angeles in 2018 around vocalist and songwriter Sarah Oferle, guitarist James Lipham, bassist Luke Reynolds, and drummer Mark Whitcomb. They released their debut EP 'The Ghost of You' in 2019, with the title track becoming their most recognizable song.
That EP's lead single 'Ghost Of You' established their sound with its melancholic melody and introspective lyrics. The band followed with the full-length album 'Echoes' in 2021, which continued their focus on personal storytelling through music.
Their early work faced some criticism for being too unconventional and not commercially viable, but they maintained their approach. The group's creative center has always been Sarah Oferle, who writes the material and handles lead vocals.
