Offenbach formed in Quebec in 1976 with Gerry Boulet on vocals and guitar, Pierre Harel on bass, and Roger Belval on drums. Their self-titled debut album came out the next year, and its lead single 'Câline de blues' became an immediate hit in Canada. The band followed with albums like 'Second Départ' in 1978 and 'Face à Face' in 1979.
Boulet's distinctive voice and the band's mix of blues and hard rock connected with audiences, though their lyrics sometimes drew criticism. Offenbach kept recording through the 1980s, with songs like 'Chu un rocker' and 'Deux autres bières' becoming staples of their live sets.
Gerry Boulet died from throat cancer in 1990 at age 44. The band continued performing and recording after his death, but their early work with Boulet remains what most listeners remember.
