A New Zealand band whose songs like 'Dying Young' connect through direct emotional pull.
For their early sound, 'Dying Young' still holds up. For where they went later, try 'Burn The City Down'.
Their debut single 'Dying Young' from 2007's 'Young, Dumb and Full of Angst' album landed with a straightforward emotional honesty that resonated with listeners. Later tracks like 'Burn The City Down' and 'Findaway' show they kept working with that same atmospheric rock sound, building arrangements that feel lived-in rather than polished.
They formed in New Zealand in the early 2000s around Hamish Jackson and Alan Galloway, adding drummer Tristan Deck and bassist Rachel Miller. After Miller left in 2010 and Mike Hall joined on bass, they took a break around 2012 but returned with albums like 'There Is No Love in Fluorescent Light' in 2014 and 'From Here We Climb' in 2018.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
