Oh No Ono formed in Montreal in 2011 with Isabella Roland on vocals and guitar, Rick O'Connell on bass and vocals, and Martin Dufresne on drums. They started out playing small shows around the city, working through some early lineup changes while developing their sound.
Their debut album 'Practical Money Skills for Life' came out in 2015, with the track 'Practical Money Skills For Life' showing their particular approach. The songs mixed everyday observations with a kind of off-kilter humor, delivered over straightforward indie arrangements that didn't try to sound bigger than they were.
Some listeners found their material too deliberately odd, but the band kept at it without much fuss. They were just three people in Montreal making the music they wanted to make.
