Ohio Express

Ohio Express was a bubblegum pop group that formed in 1967, put together by producer Jerry Kasenetz and songwriter Jeff Katz. The original lineup included Joe Serratore on lead vocals, Dean Kastran on organ, Jim Pfauter on guitar, Dale Powers on bass, and Tim Corwin on drums. Their first single was 'Beg Borrow & Steal.'

In 1968, they released 'Yummy Yummy Yummy,' which became a massive international hit. The song's simple, catchy melody and playful lyrics connected with listeners in over twenty countries. Other tracks like 'Sweeter Than Sugar' and '1,2,3 Red Light' followed a similar upbeat, accessible formula.

Kasenetz and Katz operated as the creative engine behind the scenes, writing and producing much of the material. The band's sound was straightforward pop with a light, youthful energy that fit the late 1960s radio landscape. They recorded through the early 1970s before activity slowed.
