Okay! Kenji formed in Osaka in 1999 as a quartet led by vocalist Kenji Eguchi. Their early sound pulled from punk and folk influences, though it was hard to pin down to one style. They released the album 'These Days' in 2003, which included the single of the same name that got some radio play.
The band went through some lineup changes. Guitarist Jyun-ichi Kawamoto left in 2006, and Hiroaki Murase joined on guitar. Around 2008, Kenji Eguchi made some public comments that were critical of the Japanese music industry, which stirred up some talk at the time.
Their songs like 'Negative Nancy,' 'OCEANSIDE,' and 'If I Die Alone' show a shift over time from a more energetic sound toward something a bit more reflective. The band has kept recording with Kenji Eguchi on vocals and guitar, Hiroaki Murase on guitar, Kota Akasaka on bass, and Yuya Saito on drums.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
