Archive material and source history
Oko Ebombo formed in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The band's name translates to "The Naked Eye," and their vocalist and guitarist was Solo Miasi. They released their debut album "Naked Life" in 1993, which included the song of the same name.
Their lyrics often addressed social issues in Congolese society, and they performed primarily in Lingala rather than French. This approach sometimes led to friction with authorities. The band's music incorporated traditional Congolese rhythms alongside rock, soul, and funk elements.
After "Naked Life," Oko Ebombo released several more albums including "The Way of the World" in 1996, "Endurance" in 1999, and "Kin la Belle" in 2002. Other members included Francis Lokombe on bass, Dindo Yogo on drums, and Yaya Ngoma on keyboards.
