Oktobar 1864 formed in 1986 as a Serbian rock band. Their sound mixed progressive rock and jazz with traditional Balkan elements, which gave them a distinct place in the local scene. They released albums like 'Artanita' in 1986 and 'Metalmania' in 1988, followed later by '1000 Godina' in 1996 and 'Ima Li Neke Snage' in 2002.
During the 1990s, the band took an anti-war stance and refused to perform in territories involved in the Yugoslav Wars. This drew both praise and criticism at the time. Their lineup included Branislav "Bane" Radulović on lead vocals and guitar, Slobodan "Boban" Životić on guitar, Dejan "Dejo" Utvić on bass, and Aleksandar "Aco" and Marko "Kie" Nikolić on drums and percussion.
One of their most recognizable songs is 'Carte Blanche,' which blends progressive rock instrumentation with Serbian folk melodies. They kept recording into the 2000s, putting out 'Krug' in 2009.
