Old Throne formed around 2000 with vocalist Grimnir and guitarist Blackfire, adding drummer Baldur in 2005. They've kept their identities mostly hidden, which fits with the atmospheric metal they make. Their first album, 'The Shadow of Time,' came out in 2002, followed by others like 'Aetheria' and 'The Seventh Circle' over the next dozen years.
Their best-known track is probably 'Count Grishnackh,' a song that takes its name from a Tolkien character. It's one of those pieces that gets passed around in metal circles, along with others like 'O Black Metal Jamais Morrerá' and 'Na Minha Montanha - Parte 2.' The band's lyrics often drift toward darker, more introspective themes, which has sometimes drawn attention beyond just the music.
They've never been the type to do press or explain themselves much, which has made their story a collection of rumors and album titles more than anything else. What's left are the recordings, those hazy, melodic tracks that showed up every few years without much fanfare.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
