Olivia Newton-John was born in Cambridge, England in 1948. She started performing in local clubs and talent shows before being discovered by producer John Farrar in 1965. Her early singles like 'If Not for You' and 'Banks of the Ohio' found some success, but it was her role as Sandy in the 1978 film 'Grease' that made her a global star.
That film's soundtrack included her song 'Hopelessly Devoted to You' and helped establish her in popular music. She later recorded 'Suddenly' and worked with various collaborators including John Travolta and Andy Gibb. Her band, simply called the Olivia Newton-John Band, backed her on tour.
She used her platform to raise awareness about breast cancer.
