Omar Bezerra came from Quixadá, Ceará in Brazil. He started singing with the regional band Forró Real in the late 1990s. His first album came out in 2004, called 'Apenas Creia Em Mim' after the song that became his early hit.
That title track and others like 'Em Nome de Jesus' and 'Lindo Lugar' connected with listeners through straightforward emotional delivery. Some critics found his approach too sentimental, but the songs kept finding their audience.
He put out several more albums over the following years, including 'Sonhos e Emoções' in 2005 and 'Essa É Minha Vida' in 2007. The music stayed grounded in the regional styles he came up with.
