Omário Jorge is a Brazilian singer-songwriter from São Luís, Maranhão. His father was a guitar player, and he started writing songs early, drawing from influences like Bob Dylan and Gilberto Gil. In the early 2000s, he formed the Omário Jorge Trio, which released its first album, Samba de Primeira, in 2004.
He followed that with records like O Outro Lado do Tempo in 2007 and Enquanto Há Tempo in 2012. The song Há Tempo, from that 2012 album, became his most recognized work. It's a hopeful, resilient piece that found its way into films and television.
In 2014, Jorge faced plagiarism accusations over a melody in one of his compositions. He denied it, and the issue was resolved. He kept recording, putting out DNA da Terra in 2015 and Seu Melhor in 2017.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
