One eskimO formed in Montreal in the early 2000s with Kevin Thomas on vocals and guitar, Brian Laidlaw on guitar and vocals, Mathieu Biron on bass, and Ariel Engle on drums. Their song 'Kandi' came out in 2003 and got a fair amount of radio play, though the band never really explained what the lyrics were about.
They had a few other songs that got some attention, like 'Sunny Day' and 'Astronauts'. The band put out three albums, but they weren't especially interested in following industry expectations, which made things difficult with labels at times.
There was some talk about 'Kandi' sounding similar to another artist's work, but the band denied that. They kept a fairly low profile overall, and their music had a quiet, drifting quality that felt separate from whatever was happening in mainstream alternative rock at the time.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
