One Step Away formed around vocalist Joey Ochoa and bassist Rob Lynch, who shared an interest in bands like Blink-182 and Alkaline Trio. They're often described as a pop-punk group, though that label doesn't quite capture everything they do. Their first album, "Run Away," came out in 2007 and gave them some early attention, particularly with the title track. That song, along with others like "All the Little Things" and "Hook Line and Sinker," became part of their setlist for years.
They followed up with "I Don't Mind" in 2009, which leaned into more personal territory. The band kept touring and recording, though the road life took its toll after a while. They've had their share of disagreements and lineup changes, like a lot of groups that stick around. What's left is a handful of albums and a few songs that still get played at shows.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
