ONNI formed in 2013 around vocalist Gabriel Moura and guitarist Pedro Thompson, with bassist Victor Lamas and drummer Leonardo Costa completing the lineup. They put out their first album in 2015, a self-titled record that set a moody, introspective tone. A song like 'Espelhos' from that period shows their lean toward raw, vulnerable writing.
Their 2018 album 'Motivos' took a more experimental turn. The band has sometimes drawn attention for lyrics that touch on difficult themes, and in 2017 their song 'Mil Noites' was censored by Brazilian authorities over its content. They defended the work as a critique of how society objectifies women.
ONNI's music, including tracks like 'Voz dos Cegos,' tends to operate in a space of haunting melody and direct emotional weight, more concerned with internal landscapes than broad anthems. They've built a following in Brazil's independent scene without smoothing out the edges of their sound.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
