Archive material and source history

The group known as Ooh Child started as The 5 Stairsteps in Chicago during the mid-1960s. Clarence Reid sang lead, with Christine Reid, Michael Reid, James Dean, and Keni Burke providing backing vocals. They released a debut album called "The 5 Stairsteps" that included the song "O-o-h Child."

Later albums included "Love's Gone Away" and "From Us to You." The group faced financial difficulties and disagreements with their label early on. Clarence Reid's younger brother Dennis was fatally shot, which affected the band but also seemed to strengthen their resolve to keep making music.
