Opacos MC's came out of São Paulo in the early 1990s. Their sound pulled from hip-hop, funk, and samba, and a track like "Deixa eu falar uma coisa pra você" became a kind of street anthem. The group's core included Bonde, Buiu, and Dj Camargo.
Their lyrics often dealt with social issues, poverty, inequality, police brutality, in a raw, direct way that connected with listeners. They put out albums like "Opacos MC's" in 1994, "Pau no Cunhado" in 1996, and "Cuidado com o Perigo" in 1999.
Like a lot of hip-hop acts at the time, they ran into some censorship and label trouble. Their music could be confrontational, which sparked debates. They worked with other Brazilian artists, including Sabotage and Racionais MC's.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
