Opção 3 formed in Belo Horizonte in the early 1990s with Lêo Santos on vocals and guitar, Fernando Caneca on bass, and Ronaldo Gomes on drums. Their first album, 'Pé de Ouvido,' came out in 1994, followed by 'Em Direção ao Sol' in 1996.

They had a break for a few years after a legal dispute in 1998, then came back in 2004. The 2005 album 'Sadia' included 'Lágrimas Vão e Vem,' which became their biggest song. Other tracks like 'Precisava Te Dizer' and 'Vou me refazer' are also well-known.

In 2010, some concerts were canceled after Santos made comments about religious institutions. The band kept playing, with a sound that mixed Brazilian styles and rock.
