Open Till Midnight formed around brothers Ethan and Liam Blackwood with their friend James Caldwell. They started playing in London clubs, working out a sound that pulled from gothic rock and progressive metal without settling neatly into either. Their early material didn't fit what labels were looking for at the time, so they kept at it on their own terms.
Things shifted when they put out "Circe's Isle" in 2018. The song's moody atmosphere and winding melody caught on with listeners who were drawn to something darker and less straightforward. It became their calling card, leading to their first album Nocturnal Symphony the following year.
They followed that with Shadowdance in 2022, which leaned into more reflective territory. Along the way they've put out songs like "Permafrost" and "Side Effects Of Sipping On Sunshine" that continue in that vein, atmospheric, a little brooding, built around Ethan Blackwood's vocals and guitar work.
