Archive material and source history
Operatica formed in Barcelona in 2005, bringing together five vocalists with distinct classical backgrounds. Pilar Jurado sang soprano, Carlos Marín baritone, Sebastián Izambard mezzo-soprano, Gorka Otoño tenor, and José Manuel Zapata bass-baritone. Their first album, 'From Russia with Love,' came out in 2007 and helped establish their approach of reworking opera material with contemporary arrangements.
They followed that with several more albums over the next decade, including 'Encore' in 2009, which featured violinist Ara Malikian. Their song 'Melancholy Rose' became one of their better-known tracks, though the group's catalog spans multiple releases up through 2018's 'Red Moon.'
