Archive material and source history
Opus 23 formed in the late 1970s in Schladming, Austria, with Peter Skotschnig on vocals and keyboard, Ewald Pfleger on guitar, Kurt Rene Plisnier on bass, and Gunther Gebauer on drums. They released their debut album 'Day After Day' in 1982, which included the single 'Behind Mountains' that became an international hit.
That song opened up touring opportunities across Europe, though the band also faced a plagiarism accusation in 1984 that led to legal trouble. Internal tensions grew, and by 1986 both Pfleger and Plisnier had left the group.
Other songs from their catalog include 'Freedom's Night,' 'Like Angels Fly By Light,' and 'Picture Place.'
