Opus Dai formed in 1969 with a group of musicians who wanted to make music about their faith. Their first album came out in 1975, which included the song "Bella Christa." That track became their most recognizable piece, finding listeners both inside and outside Catholic circles.
Their catalog includes albums like "Light of the World" from 1977, "Songs from the Heart" in 1980, and "In the Sun" in 1986. Other songs like "Rain" and "Sinking Ship" show the group working with folk and rock sounds alongside their more devotional material.
Some listeners found their approach too sentimental at times, but they kept recording and performing for their audience. The original lineup featured Nick Robertson on lead vocals and guitar, Ray Repp on bass, John Polhill on keyboards, Greg Harewood on drums, and Mark Robertson on guitar.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
