OPV, short for Os Paralamas do Sucesso, formed in 1982 with Herbert Vianna on vocals and guitar, Bi Ribeiro on drums, and João Barone on bass. They started playing in bars and small clubs around Rio de Janeiro. Their debut album 'Cinema Mudo' came out the following year.
One of their early songs, 'Caneta E Papel,' became a hit in 1983. It's still one of their most recognizable tracks, along with others like 'De Costas Pro Mundo' and 'Mariana.' They followed up with albums like 'Selvagem?' and 'Bora-Bora.'
In 2001, Herbert Vianna was seriously injured in a car accident, which led to a break in the band's activity. He eventually returned to music and OPV continued performing.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
