OQuadro formed in Salvador, Bahia in 2011 as a quartet led by vocalist and guitarist Junior Nacimento, with percussionist Valmir Ribeiro, bassist Anderson Mello, and drummer Pedro Almeida. Their sound mixed samba, reggae, and funk, sometimes called samba-reggae, with lyrics that touched on social themes alongside love and celebration.
In 2016, their single "Tá Amarrado" became a national hit in Brazil, known as an anthem of female empowerment and self-love. Other songs like "Trabalho" and "Ainda É Cedo" also gained attention. They released several albums including "Diferente" in 2012, "Axé" in 2014, and a self-titled album in 2018.
In 2018, the band faced plagiarism allegations related to a live performance, which they addressed by stating they always credited their influences. They continued performing and released more albums like "Ao Vivo em Salvador" in 2020 and "Sintonia" in 2022, touring in Brazil and internationally.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
