Orei Na Palomba formed in Rio de Janeiro in the late 1960s around singer Nica Batista. Their name translates to 'King of the Dove,' and they worked with a mix of samba, funk, and rock that wasn't always an easy sell at first.
In 1972 they released the album 'A Dança da Palomba,' and the title track became their breakthrough. The song's melody and Nica's delivery connected with listeners across Brazil, even as some of their material faced radio bans for its content. They kept recording through the 1970s and 1980s, with songs like 'Aliança No Dedo de Coroa' and 'Arrochadeira Desgramada' showing their continued work in that hybrid style.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
