Origem da Alma formed in 2003 around singer and guitarist Anderson Reis, with early members including bassist Ricardo Borges and drummer Bruno Rodrigues. Later, keyboardist Marcelo Souto and guitarist Rodrigo Reis joined the lineup. They put out albums like 'Essencial' in 2006, 'Coração Sangrento' in 2008, and 'Assédio Mental' in 2012.
Their songs often deal with heavy subjects, love and loss, social injustice, mental health. The track 'Assédio Mental' drew some criticism in 2013 for its direct lyrics about sexual harassment, though it also got people talking. They've played shows around Brazil and built a following that responds to that kind of raw, guitar-driven sound.
They had a legal dispute over music rights in 2010, which didn't stop them from recording. You can hear that persistent, somewhat gritty approach in songs like 'Declínio' and 'O Ontem, o Hoje e o Amanha', tracks that don't smooth over the harder edges of their themes.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
